GoPro unveiled its first camera back in 2004. The 35mm camera had a waterproof housing and was priced at a mere $150,000. One decade and an IPO later, the company announced a new camera design that’s smaller, light and easier to use than previous models.

Called the Hero4 Session, GoPro’s newest camera is half the size of its current flagship Hero4 and 40 percent lighter. It’s also a different shape, a 1.4-inch square, which allows it to be connected much more easily to your helmet, surfboard, bicycle, or other sporting equipment before heading out to shoot your next action video.

The camera can record video at 1140p at 30 frames per second (fps), 1080p at 60fps, and 720p at 100fps.

The camera is also capable of shooting 8-megapixel stills, and has a burst mode that can capture 10 shots per second. Dual microphones help cut down on wind noise for action videos.

You’re not going to get 4k video like you do with Hero4, but for what you lose in resolution you’ll gain in ease of use. In addition to cutting down the size of the GoPro for the Session, GoPro also cut down on the camera’s controls. The Session has just one button, which is used to power the camera on as well as capture photos and videos. The Session is also waterproof up 33 feet on its own. That’s a lot less than the 131 feet the traditional Hero4 is capable of; however, the camera doesn’t require any additional housing to be waterproof.

The GoPro Hero4 Session will be available next week on July 12th and is priced at $399.
